About the Author

In 1959, at the age of 16, Bob Kellett joined the New Zealand Army as a Regular Force Cadet. Later he was selected to attend the Australian Army’s Officer Cadet School at Portsea, Victoria, being commissioned as an officer in the New Zealand Army in 1964.

During the Vietnam War Bob served as an Infantry platoon commander with Victor 3 Company, being the only platoon commander to serve for the full twelve months of that unit’s tour of active service in South Vietnam.

After Vietnam, Bob continued his career in the Army until 1983, retiring in the rank of lieutenant colonel. Together with his wife, Margaret, they then enjoyed the challenge and rewards of a successful venture into private enterprise.

Selling their company in 2001, Bob and Margaret were then free to enjoy travel, primarily to visit their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, all of whom live overseas. In 2004 they purchased their first motorhome in the USA and since then have been privileged to also spend several months every year exploring the richly diverse North American continent in their motorhome.
